Family Vacation

I’m getting ready to take a vacation with our family. Honestly, I’m looking forward to unplugging. I love my job. I love preaching and reaching people for Christ. I want to give myself to ministry for the rest of my life. But, if I’m going to be around for the long haul vacations are a must! I’m also looking forward to our vacation because I love my wife and kids. The little ones are growing so fast. It’s time to Carpe diem -, to seize the day, because the window of life time memory making is so short. So, we’re off to Atlanta to spend some time on Lake Lanier with Wendy’s family. Then it’s off to Orlando. This summer, seize the day! Take a break, refresh, and invest in your family!

High Seas VBS 2010 Update

I have to give it up for the crew running our High Seas Vacation Bible School this year. Last night was our first of 5 consecutive nights and it was incredible. My hats off to Mary Randolph, our director, and Jessica Clayton our assistant director.

This year we have our largest group of kids ever. But, the real reason why I’m so pumped is because I know the lifelong impact we’re making on the lives of these young kids. They’re exposed to so much trash often times through the media – TV, movies, and video games. Each night these kids are singing, playing, laughing, building friendships, and most importantly learning about Jesus’ love. Great job everyone!

It still not too late to join. Come on out from 6:30 to 8:30 each night this week.

Is Bigger Government The Answer?

There seems to be a philosophical and ideological shift taking place in the minds of Americans over capitalism (free enterprise) and the role of government. Socialism (redistribution of wealth) is rising in popularity as I’ve never seen it in my day. Government is being looked to as the answer to all our problems. Capitalism is now seen by many as the great evil, the chief cause of so much hardship in history.

Because the chief problem with man is the spiritual disconnect because of our universal fallen nature big government will never be the answer. The level of corruption we see in Wall Street, banking, and in the health insurance industries will only be shifted to Washington, where it will only worsen because the power will be so concentrated in the hands of a few.

We see the weakness of our government in the slow and lethargic response to the Gulf Crisis. Why would we then look to it for all our answers?

What is the hope of the world? It’s not in a program but in a person. Jesus is still the answer for the world today. When he comes into our hearts through faith he so transforms us that we want to better not only ourselves, and our families, but the world around us. Because he gives us salvation and so much more, we in turn naturally desire to come to a place where we can give. This is not a top down, but a bottom up solution that can change the world!

Memorial Day Memory

Memorial Day this year was one of the best. My family went to Burke Lake Park. If you haven’t been you need to go – http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/burkelake. We had fun paddle boating, hiking, riding the train and carousel, and eating ice cream.

I love my family. As a pastor there can be times when ministry weighs heavy. The extra lift I need usually comes from spending time with them doing something fun.
