Outreach to Sierra Leone 2010

One of the cool mission opportunities that has come our way is the Global Leadership Institute in Bo, Sierra Leone. We are now making the final plans for year two to be held October 4th to October 15th. The same cohort of 25 pastors that were trained last year are coming back for another two week intensive. Before we arrive the first year group will be training a new group of 25 pastors. After the third year our plan is to hand the institute over to the Sierra Leonian pastors for ongoing yearly pastoral training. Our vision is that many new churches will be planted in a nation that is over 80% Muslim.

Through our involvement with the GLI our church will also have an opportunity to sponsor a new, hand dug well located next to a church in Kenema, Sierra Leone. Drinkable water is a big need. Many in the community will then come to the church daily for water. This will open a door for many to come to salvation. I’m thankful for the work of Dr. John Thompson (http://www.allnationsfellowship.org/) and Pastor Gregory Bangura (http://rabboniworshipcentesierraleone.blogspot.com) for being the visionaries for the GLI.

The Real Story Behind Amazing Grace

I came across this version of Amazing Grace by Pastor Wintley Phipps. He has an amazing voice. Before singing he shares how the song was composed. This will put goose bumps on your goose bumps. If not, call me and I’ll pray for you.

The Power of A Parent

My dad yesterday called me out of the blue and asked me to lunch. I didn’t even think about it. I dropped what I was doing. This was a rare joy. When was the last time my dad and I, just us, sat down for a bite to eat? It’s been too long. We had a great time. We talked about life, how it’s changed. We talked about our challenges. We laughed a little. As I sat there I saw not just my dad but my friend. That was the best lunch I’ve had in a while. In fact, it made my day.

It made me realize the power that a parent has over their children. Parents a larger than life to their kids. When a parent takes the time to take their kid out for one on one time it says loud and clear, “I care about you. You’re special.” Parents don’t underestimate the influence that you have. It’s huge. Take time today not just to parent, but to build a friendship with the kids God has given you.
